About Howard Optional Placement Program

This is a school where students come who may not be able to learn in a traditional school setting, and who may need a more intensive instructional classroom. Students come to us from eight home schools in the district and are loaned to us for a length of time. Their home school still has ownership of them and communication is constant between schools. While at Howard, they are provided services as close as possible to their home school curriculum. This ensures that their learning is continuous and built upon each day.

Middle School students are provided services in a classroom with a certified teacher. They receive intensive instruction with a lower count of students in the classroom. Their grades are recorded and sent to their home school. The middle home schools include: Georgetown Middle, Carvers Bay Middle, Rosemary Middle, and Waccamaw Middle schools.

High School students are provided services through the use of the computer program called Fuel Ed. A certified teacher monitors their work each day and provides assistance when needed. Students continue working towards earning credits to graduate high school and are encouraged each day to do so. Their home school also has access to their progress and credits earned. The high home schools include: Andrews High, Georgtown High, Carvers Bay High, and Waccamaw High schools.

All students are provided help with course curriculum content when needed. Special services are provided for our students. These services are similar to their home school services.
